TMS Mental Health Treatment for Veterans – Ottawa

TMS Life is proud to support Canadian Military and RCMP Veterans living with trauma-related mental health challenges. We have extensive experience working with Veterans and our personalized approach to care and specialized treatments has delivered important and meaningful improvements for our clients. We are committed to walking alongside those who have served.

Many Veterans spend years dealing with anxiety, depression, and/or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms. In some cases, standard treatments provide limited or incomplete relief. Our clinic offers Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) as a non-invasive treatment option for Veterans seeking relief from long-term mental health concerns.

You served. Let us support you.

TMS Life is here to provide compassionate, effective care for the veteran community that has given so much.

What Clients Say About Us

Non-Medication PTSD Treatment for Veterans in Ottawa

Military service can expose individuals to extreme stress, repeated trauma, and service-related injuries that affect both the brain and body. For many Veterans, these experiences contribute to mental illness such as post-traumatic stress, depression, anxiety, or other mental health issues, and may be compounded by traumatic brain injury (TBI), chronic pain, or other physical symptoms that persist long after service has ended. These are common challenges among Veterans and can interfere with sleep, concentration, emotional regulation, relationships, and overall quality of life.

Some Veterans also contend with substance abuse as a way of coping with unresolved trauma or ongoing symptoms, particularly when conventional treatments have provided limited relief. We recognize that these difficulties rarely occur in isolation and often reflect the cumulative impact of service-related experiences rather than personal failure.

Our Veteran-focused program offers non-medication treatment options for PTSD and related conditions through non-invasive TMS therapy, which targets the brain networks involved in threat response, emotional processing, and recovery from trauma. TMS does not require sedation or medication, does not disrupt daily responsibilities, and can be pursued without changes to existing medications.

Personalized and Specialized Treatment

We are world-leaders in the provision of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Treatments using advanced deep TMS technology. Each treatment protocol is carefully selected and personalized to the individual based on the following factors:

Deep TMS for Veterans - Real Results

In our clinic, 2 out of 3 veteran clients experience a clinically significant and meaningful reduction in their symptoms or remission after an acute course of evidence based treatment. In addition, the majority of our clients are able to reduce or discontinue at least 1 medication with the guidance of Dr. Chris Taplin and stability of treatment response from TMS mental health services. We provide a relaxing and caring environment to support veterans and their recovery.

Access and Coverage

We believe that access to care should never be a barrier to recovery.

Currently, most Canadian Military personnel and RCMP Veterans with a K-number and pensionable condition are fully covered for our medical services. TMS Life works closely with Medavie Blue Cross to streamline coverage ensuring a smooth and stress-free process. Every military veteran has the opportunity to speak with Dr. Chris Taplin directly and if TMS is an appropriate and reasonable treatment, then we handle the special authorization request. On average, once we submit our request we receive approval within 2 to 4 weeks.

What services are available for Veterans with PTSD at TMS Life?
At TMS Life, we provide specialized, non-medication mental health treatment for Veterans living with PTSD and related trauma-based conditions. Our primary service offering is Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), delivered at our Ottawa clinic as an evidence-based, non-invasive treatment option for Veterans whose symptoms have persisted despite standard care or who are seeking an alternative to medication. For existing clients, we also offer Ketamine treatments including Sublingual, IM and Spravato (Esketamine) options.
Yes. Veterans do not pay out of pocket for any treatment options provided by TMS Life.

For individuals whose PTSD symptoms have not responded fully to medication, exposure therapy psychotherapy or cognitive processing therapy, non-medication, neuroscience-based treatments can be effective alternatives. At TMS Life, we provide Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), a non-invasive therapy designed to directly target brain networks involved in threat response, emotional regulation, and trauma processing.

TMS has shown meaningful clinical benefit for many individuals with PTSD, particularly when symptoms overlap with depression, anxiety, or chronic hyperarousal. Treatment is delivered on an outpatient basis, does not require sedation or recovery time, and can be pursued without changing existing medications.

There is no single treatment that works for every Veteran. At TMS Life, we assess whether TMS is an appropriate option based on symptom severity, prior treatment history, and individual goals. For many Veterans with persistent symptoms, TMS provides meaningful improvement when other approaches have not been sufficient.
Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS), including deep TMS protocols used at our clinic, has demonstrated effectiveness in reducing PTSD symptoms in many individuals.
Many Veterans with a history of traumatic brain injury may be eligible for TMS treatment, depending on the nature of the injury and current symptoms. During consultation, we carefully review TBI history, imaging when available, and symptom patterns to determine whether TMS is appropriate and safe.
While TMS is not a direct treatment for physical injuries, some Veterans experience improvements in physical symptoms such as fatigue, sleep disruption, headaches, or pain that are closely linked to trauma-related mental illness. These changes are often associated with improved regulation of brain networks involved in stress and arousal. In addition, there is strong and emerging evidence to support the role of TMS in the treatment of chronic pain conditions.
TMS may be appropriate for Veterans with co-occurring substance use concerns when substance use is closely connected to PTSD, depression, or anxiety. Eligibility is assessed carefully during consultation. TMS is not a standalone addiction treatment but may support broader recovery efforts when clinically appropriate.
Operator Syndrome describes a cluster of symptoms seen in some Veterans and tactical professionals exposed to chronic operational stress. Symptoms may include emotional numbing, irritability, sleep disturbance, hypervigilance, cognitive fatigue, anxiety, and depression. While not a formal diagnosis, these symptoms overlap significantly with PTSD and trauma-related conditions treated at TMS Life using TMS therapy. TMS is a treatment recommended in the book Operator Syndrome by Chris Frueh, PhD.

No referral is required. Veterans can contact TMS Life directly to schedule a consultation. If TMS is appropriate, we guide next steps and manage the coverage and authorization process.
