Research

TMS Life is committed to improving treatment outcomes for individuals with treatment-resistant mental health conditions. As part of this commitment, TMS Life continues to develop and refine transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) protocols and evaluate treatment outcomes through a number of ongoing clinical research projects. These projects are developed in tandem with clinical treatment. Collection and analysis of data is important to advance our understanding of mental health outcomes because many individuals that we see are typically excluded from formal research trials due to suicidality and comorbidities.

In addition, the current classification of Mental Health Disorders is based entirely on symptoms with little to no guidance towards causal pathways which means that current treatments are trial and error.

Quantitative Electroencephalogram (qEEG) is currently the best available and non-invasive technique to measure activity in the brain. It is well placed to be paired with TMS due to the overlap between areas being measured and direct stimulation of these brain regions with TMS. In addition, clear qEEG phenotypes are beginning to emerge that may better define mental health conditions by objective measurements rather than symptoms based measurements which are entirely subjective. We are world-leaders in the direct advancement and development of qEEG guided Deep TMS which is based entirely on the desire to have better treatment outcomes for each client that we see at our clinic.

Ongoing Projects include:

These projects involve the secondary use of anonymous data. Secondary use of anonymous data refers to research that exclusively utilizes previously collected information that does not generate identifiable information. For the purposes of this clinical research, “anonymous” means that identifiers have been irrevocably removed. Individuals may opt-out of participation at any time for any reason by contacting the clinical team and completing an opt-out consent form.

Real Results

In our clinic, 2 out of 3 veteran clients experience a clinically significant and meaningful reduction in their symptoms or remission after an acute course of treatment. In addition, the majority of our clients are able to reduce or discontinue at least 1 medication with the guidance of Dr. Chris Taplin and stability of treatment response from TMS.

Access and Coverage

We believe that access to care should never be a barrier to recovery.

Currently, most Military and RCMP Veterans with a K-number and pensionable condition are fully covered for our treatments. TMS Life works closely with Medavie Blue Cross to streamline coverage ensuring a smooth and stress-free process. Every Veteran has the opportunity to speak with Dr. Chris Taplin directly and if TMS is an appropriate and reasonable treatment, then we handle the special authorization request. On average, once we submit our request we receive approval within 2 to 4 weeks.

To make access even easier for our veterans:

You served. Let us support you.

TMS Life is here to provide compassionate, effective care for those who have given so much.
